Inserting clip art causes machine to hang

L

Linda

Since we have upgraded to PP 2003, we having problems
with clip art. It will hang up and not show anything
when you try to insert. Note: We are trying to insert
from Title and Content slide layout using the clipart
icon.

We had no problems with PP 2000. Sometimes my students
will have to shut down the entire project (lose their
material) and start again.

Any suggestions?

Hi Linda,

Try this:
Click on Insert, Picture, Clip Art. When the clip art
window opens up on the right, use the drop down arrow
under search (defaults to selected collections), uncheck
web collections if it's checked. If it's not, then click
on Tools, Options, General Tab, Service Options, and
uncheck the box for online content.

Hello,

Did you know that you can automatically send an error report to Microsoft
any time an Office 2003 application is hung or not responding (not just
when a crash occurs)?

To use the Microsoft Office Application Recovery tool feature in Office
2003 to send in an error report whenever PowerPoint is hung or not
responding:

1) Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Tools ->
Microsoft Office Application Recovery
2) Select "Microsoft Office PowerPoint" from list of applications in dialog
3) Click "End Application..." button.
4) Click on "What data does this report contain?
5) Note down the following information:

* AppName:
* AppVer:
* AppStamp:
* ModName:
* ModVer:
* ModStamp:
* fDebug:
* Offset:

6) Click "Close"
7) Click "Send Error Report

If you post the information noted in step 5 above to this newsgroup I might
be able to verify whether or not this is already a known issue.

Thanks for your response.

We never get an error message. Instead, we usually go to
task manager and end the application. As my students re-
enter PP, they have lost whatever was done. We have
waited as long as 10 minutes for clip art to insert.

From my observation, it seems to be web related. Since
our class periods are 50 minutes, we can't get up and do
something else.

The "Microsoft Office Application Recovery" tool is for when there is NO
error message (which is what you have described). If PowerPoint (Word,
Excel) appear to hang (NO error message, just not responding), you can use
this tool to send in an error report instead of using the Task Manager to
end the application.
