inserted picture does not show after opening Word document

When I have a word document that has a picture inserted in it, more often
than not, the picture will not display in the document when I open the
document or when I am scrolling in the document. I ususally have to click
the "Show/Hide" icon (the one that looks like a backwards double P) twice to
get it to show. I have changed the Refresh Rate for the display, but that
doesn't make any difference. What else could the problem be?

Also, if I put more than one clipart in an email while I am creating it,
everything slows down whenever I am scrolling in the email. Why?

I have XP and Office 2003.

Thanks,
Holben

It sounds like your video card, or at least its driver software, isn't
capable of handling the load.

For a workaround, try turning down the hardware acceleration. Go to Start >
Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot.
Move the Hardware acceleration slider one or more notches to the left. Click
the Apply button. Try using Word. If the problem continues, try moving the
slider further left, until the problem stops or the slider goes all the way
the the left.

If that helps, even partially, try visiting the website of the video card
manufacturer to see whether there's a driver update that you can download.
