Insert Key

Hi,

It seems that Word 2007 doesn't support the insert key. Each time i press
it, it doesn't do anything. I'm using Word 2007 B2TR

What are you expecting it to do?

Well, when you press the insert key and type, it replaces all of the
characters (it erases automatically those after). It types over all the
following characters.

We have tested this issue on several computers and it happens almost
everytime.

The Insert key is a toggle. When you press it once, it toggles to Overtype
mode (which you describe). You can tell when you're in Overtype mode because
you will see OVR in black on the Word Status bar. Pressing Insert again will
toggle it off.

If you're saying you want to get into Overtype mode and cannot do it by
pressing Insert, it may be that someone has reassigned the Insert key (which
you can undo); you can still toggle Overtype mode by double-clicking OVR or
using the check box on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

2007 does not appear to have the option to use the Insert key to Paste.

There is an option to use it to toggle Overtype mode and if this is off it
doesn't appear to do anything (in B2 - I haven't done the B2TR update yet)

Ah, I'd lost track of the fact that David is using Word 2007.

Hi David,

In the status bar of the Word 2007 window does it show 'Insert' as one of the entries? If not, right click on the status bar and
checkmark the Overtype/Insert display setting. If the 'Insert' display doesn't toggle between Insert and Overtype you can change
one of the Advanced Option settings.

To enable the Insert key toggle for Overtype/Insert use
Office button(File)=>Word Options=>Advanced=>Editing Options
and choose the 'Use the Insert Key to control overtype mode"
