insert hyperlink to file in email

I used to be able to insert hyperlink and find the file and it would
automatically insert the path to the document.

Now I have to go to insert hyperlink, select the file option, then type in
the name of the path.

Why must I now type in all the path info?

I don't believe I did, however we did upgrade from 2000 to 2003 and are using
an exchange server on our network.

I tried going to change the mail format in the options and the check boxes
were grayed out.

Any other suggestions?
