I am trying to insert my filename into footers on my slides. Is there a
simple way as in Word w/o getting into macros?

Short answer -- No

Long answer -- No, Sue.

Macros are required to do this task in the PowerPoint program.

Thanks, Bill. Not the answer I would have liked, but pretty much the answer
I came up with.

What Bill said. Sorta. But ...

Simple? Yes. Tedious? Yes. But you can choose View, Footers/Headers and
manually type in the filename. Or add it as an independent text block on the
slide master(s).

As in Word? Automatically? Alas, no.
