Insert file hyperlink in contact

Using Outlook 2000

Within the notes section of a contact I tried to insert a link to a
local file via the following methods:

I created a shortcut w/ explorer, and then cut and pasted the shortcut
into the contact. This worked, but the shortcut is displayed as an
icon.

Any way to display it as a text string of my choice?

The following approach is close, but not quite right:

By preceding the path w/ "http://" as in http://C:my directory/my
file.doc
As soon as I added "http" it was converted to a hyperlink to "http://
C:my" i.e. stopped at the space and did not work. I also tried quotes
as in http://"C:my directory/my file.doc" w/ same results.

Thanks

Why do you want it to be a string? It works fine this way in that version:

Insert | File | select the file (single click) | Insert button drop down
arrow and select Insert as Shortcut.

All newer versions will do strings and say Insert as Hyperlink rather than
Insert as Shortcut.
