Insert a blank writable CD

Windows XP Pro-SP2-Media Center Version: I have read the many emails written
by others about not being able to burn CD's (Error box says: insert a blank
writeable CD) for which no one seems to have an answer. I have searched
Google for information and even chatted with an HP tech trying to solve the
problem of why my computer will not burn CD-R's. The computer will burn DVD's
and CD-RW's. It would also burn CD-R's in the past.

I have tried different brands of CD's including Verbatim, Memorex, Fuji,
Sony and Maxell. None of them will burn but an el-cheapo CD-RW will burn.

The HP tech upgraded my Sonic program which did nothing and he finally sent
me to Kelly's Korner for a Registry update. I am still looking for answers
or a repair. I hope someone can help me and the many others who desperately
need the help. . .

CD-R's burn at a much higher speed than CD-RW's. Try burning a CD-R at a
lower speed, like 4x. If it works at 4x, go up to 8x and so on until it
stops working. If it works fine at lower speeds, it indicates a hardware
problem with the burner itself - replace it for about $40. Also, have
you tried any other CD burning programs? Like perhaps NERO? You can
download a trial version here: http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Downloads.html

Good luck,

I usually burn everything at 4x since I have plenty of time. Nero gives the
same error message - Insert a blank writable CD. So maybe it is time to
replace the CD tray. Thanks for trying to help me.

I see all sorts of weird problems with CD/DVD burners. I have one right
now that refuses to burn all DVD/RW disks, but will burn DVD/R's, CD/R's
and CD/RW's perfectly at the highest speed - and it's a 'top of the
line' Plextor unit........ Bottom line, they're really easy to install
(unplug the old then plug in the new) and a replacement can be had for
less than $40 with Lightscribe! Here:
