Any of the pigment ink printers should work. What is your definition of
affordable? Also what size print? Ebay is full of old Encads, generally at
reasonable prices (for those units) Also large format Epsons and HP's. Go
Encad if you want it to cut the vinyl.

Thanks, Village Idiot. But what is a Encads? I will have to do a
search. How much are we talking about?

There are "vinyl" materials that are suitable for inkjet printers. In this
vinyl any inkjet printer or plotter can print. But they cost much.
Only few dedicated plotters could print on "conventional" vinyl.

ENCAD. Made by Kodak. Don't know a lot about them, but I know there are a few
that can be used with vinyl materials for making signs, stickers, etc. Most
of them are pretty expensive. Most of them are 24 inch wide or larger. Look
on Ebay, there are normally several for sale. If you just want to print onto
vinyl then any of the large format printers would work. Epson 7000, 7500,
7600, 9000, 9500, 9600, 10000, 10600 to name a few. Used 9000 and 9500 have
been going for around $2500 USD. Many of the 36 inch wide and larger (up to
60 inch wide) Encad models have been going for about the same. Don't know
anything about the HP or Canon models. Know a fair amount about the Epson
9000/9500.

Printing on vinyl normally suggests that the end product is for possible
OUTSIDE use, this would require a pigment, waterproof ink. Encad GO (General
Outdoor I think) ink. For Epson I would suggest looking at
http://www.mediastreet.com for their outdoor waterproof inks.
