You have no choice. Dell have modified their units so that they will only
accept their own cartridges. IMO, I'd stick it on eBay (you probably won't
get much for it, if it sells at all) or give it away, and buy a proper
printer.

The printer is worth around £40 - that's why they give them away, they're
not losing anything. A black and a colour will set you back £50. As for it
being a photo printer, I'm afraid Dell are giving themselves airs. You don't
get photo quality for £40! In fact, I saw it on one site for just over £30.

Do yourself a favour and buy a decent printer - you can pick up a Canon
Pixma IP2000 for around £75 and the tanks are around £7 (I believe it takes
6) and there's the added bonus that you can use compatibles which could cost
around half the price.

There are reasons why it's free:

A. It's made by Lexmark and their inkjets are crap
B. Only Dell cartridges will fit it and they cost a fortune

And if that's a photo printer then Dell sell iMacs.

Use the ink up, throw it away and buy a decent printer.
