Initial Outlook Setup

/svcs/hotmail I am trying to set up my outlook for the first time today and I
cannot seem to get it to work correctly. I created a new hotmail email
address, selected httm, typed all the needed information correctly and I
cannot view any emails in outlook that I sent to that account or send emails
from outlook.
The error message that I get when I send is:
A connection to the server could not be established.
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp is now in offline mode.

The details for the error state: There may be server or network problms or
your timeout interval ma be too short.

I need some serious help.

thanks
chris

Hotmail no longer allows HTTP access via Outlook to Hotmail addresses.

Was it a freebie Hotmail account? Or did you pay for their premium
service?

Won't work unless you have a PAID Hotmail account. As of Sept 27, 2004,
Microsoft changed its policy and now WebDAV access (which is what
Outlook [Express] uses for HTTPmail accounts) is permitted only for paid
accounts. If you want to use Outlook [Express] to access Hotmail,
you'll have to pay for it, or resolve to only using their webmail
interface.

That's funny....I have the normal Hotmail acct and I can check/send my
hotmail e-mails in my Outlook Express. Maybe you are referring to Outlook?

For existing free Hotmail accounts, access via WebDAV with either Outlook
Express or Outlook may continue to work for a while yet (it no longer works
for new free Hotmail accounts), but Hotmail has promised that will cease for
all free accounts sometime in April.

If your freebie Hotmail account was created before Sept 27, 2004, you
can continue to use a local e-mail client (i.e., Outlook or Outlook
Express) to provide WebDAV access until around March 2005. Then you
lose that access. If you created your freebie Hotmail account after
that date, you don't get WebDAV access to it. Regardless of when you
opened your Hotmail account, you get WebDAV access if you PAY for the
premium service at Hotmail. So although you might have WebDAV access
for now for an old Hotmail account, you will lose WebDAV access in a
couple months.
