I inheireted a computer with W2k pRO. The computer has two administrator
users configured on it. I was given the userid and password for one of the
users and I have been using that id and pwd ever since I got the computer.

I would like to delete the other administrator as a user and change the
userid and password that I am currently using. I believe that I have
sufficient security rights since I am signed on as an administrator.

Can someone suggest a way to accomplish this?

TIA

Hello George,

Check that your account is in the administrators group of the workstation,
then you have the rights. But also check that not some software is running
that uses the account you like to delete, as a service account. To be sure
that the account is not used disable it and run all software, then you can
see if it has an effect. After that you can delete it if you like, or change
the password to a very strong one and keep it safe, then you have an emergency
account in spare.

Hello Meinolf,

My Mother has also inherited a former 'business spec' pc from a relative,
which is about 7 years old and running windows 2000 professional (and office
xp pro). Problem is she can barely figure out how to switch the thing on and
the original operating system recovery disc as well as all the other discs
for the office app' and others have been lost.

I don't have any experience of Windows 2000 or making a system recovery disc
and would like to make this system recovery disc or some other form of back
up on a cd or dvd using my external usb 2.0 dvd re-writer before something
bad happens with this pc. (She does not even have any anti virus or firewall
etc nor does she know how to use these applications). She wants to get this
computer connected to the web via broadband so I would like to know how get
this disc made before she starts to try use it for internet access. All she
wants to do with it is word process, surf and use e-mail (possibly
store/print out digital photos and store/play mp3's if or when she gets the
right applications too).

I know the questions were not 'security related' but any help will be much
appreciated.

Hello TufftyBob,

You can create an image of the complete harddisk with imaging software like
Acronis or ghost.
