You could try one of the following:

1. Go to an on-line antivirus site and scan from there.
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp or
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ or
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm

Also try a Google search on "antivirus scan online" without the quotes.

2. Try Mcafee "Stinger", which runs from a floppy, or maybe a CD these
days. http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=stinger

3. Try the free Ultimate Boot CD, which includes several antivirus
programs. You will need to set the PC to boot from CD before hard drive.
This is done via the BIOS setup, which is below the Windoiws level.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
