Index page not renamed in FP2003

Apologies if this has already come up. I noticed that when I publish a Web site to my http://localhost that index.htm is not renamed to Default htm, but if I create a site directly on localhost, the home page is automatically named Default.htm. I have just recently installed Windows XP Pro, so perhaps my IIS settings aren't exactly right? I have FP2002 extensions installed, so features seem to work in published Web sites, but I can't figure why the home page isn't automatically renamed during the publishing process. Any help greatly appreciated!

The list of default document names in IIS5.1 starts with Default.htm and
ends with index.htm. Since index.htm is in the list, the page name is not
changed when publishing existing webs to IIS.
When creating a new site, Default.htm is used because it is first in the
queue.
Note that if the web being published had index.html as its default page,
this *would* be changed to Default.htm - index.html is not in the document
list (when IIS is installed).

Ron, brilliant. I did see that list of default document
names, but didn't put two and two together. I just tried
this by renaming an index page to index.html, and when
published, it changed to Default.htm. I'm assuming this
list of default names is exclusive to IIS5.1? I know this
didn't happen when I was publishing in Win2K, which I
think uses IIS5.0.

The same (or very similar) list is used in IIS6 (Windows 2003). The list of
documents can be added to, and the order re-arranged, which may explain your
experience with Win2K. I have no experience with Win2K so cannot really
comment.
