Index Page: directoryname? or A Label Like This In Sentence Case?

D

DSG

Index Page:
When we're going to *Open Web* and we see in the Look in: space and see "My
Webs", then the names of our webs are listed.

(1) Are those webs in the list supposed to be the short, lowercase,
directory_names, or are they sometimes A Few Words In Sentence Case? Another
place they show up is on 'page properties' > General Tab > Location.

(2) If it is supposed to be Sentence Case, is it supposed to match the way
the "title" is written? For example: NAME of Web - or - Name of Web.

It's best to stick to lowercase and no spaces for folder and file names,
although it may not matter on your windows machine. The Title doesn't
matter...it can be mixed cases with spaces.

So if my directory name is really 'mypages' and it is now shown as 'My
Really Good Pages" (under Open Web) where is the best place, or the correct
place to rename it back to 'mypages'? in the Page Properties> Location
dialog? or is there a really correct place to rename it? I don't want to end
up with both the old name and the directory name.

The root web name is not the issue, it is the folder and file name under the root web folder that

Thanks, Thomas. I have studied my root name, titles, and the folder and file
name under the root name and I will try something that might fix it.

In the meantime, I need to track down my ISP's status: re: server
extensions. At one point in time a technician told me which version of
extensions they had installed. Last week the national support person (not a
technician) told me they have nothing like FrontPage extensions installed on
any of their servers - that all I am doing when I ask to re-enable FP
extensions is copying back the 'permissoins' for the extensions. That
answer leaves me out in left field. So I will see if this time I can get
hold of a warm body (technician) and find out for sure. I haven't used FTP
for this web.

In the meantime, the code on my remote website source page is getting
trashier all the time and doesn't look anything like the source code on my
local web. The pages look okay, but the top shared border (except for a few
child-child pages) don't have the title or the navigation bars.
http://home.nycap.rr.com/smallfamily/

I am just reading an old article by Kevin Spencer and he writes: "The
FrontPage Server Extensions are actually a group of programs which run on a
server. Your local server has them, and if your webs are on an Internet
Server which supports FrontPage, they are on the remote server as well. In
fact, every FrontPage web on a server has its' own set of extensions, as
well as the server itself."

So my question is, I'm on a standalone computer, FrontPage 2000 installed
and integrated into Office 2000, (Windows XP 2002 SP2) and my ISP is a LAN
(RR). Am I the local server, or is my ISP my local server? Maybe the
question is, does FrontPage Extensions install with FrontPage 2000?

1) Your local PC if running a disc based web (c:\somepath) does not use the FP SE
- you are not running a server based web - you are running a disc based web
- your host is running the online server
2) You are using FP shared borders which do not require the FP SE
(but you are limited to publishing in FTP mode w/ them)
- do not use absolute positioning in your shared borders

For a list of features which require your host to have the FP SE see

Thanks, Stephan. The articles you mention I went and read them yesterday and
now have to go back and find what my ISP has written (whether they do or do
not have FrontPage Extensions). And try again to get a real technician who
knows if they do or not..

In the meantime, Stephan, not sure if Thomas Rowe is on today, but I have a
question about his last statement which may seem like child's play for you
folks who know what you're doing. Beginning at the bottom of this
dissertation, starting with
my (DSG) initial question, and coming up to:
Crash Giordano
then me DSG
Then Thomas Rowe where he says: "The root web name is not the issue, it is
the folder and file name under the root web folder that need to be changed,
etc."

Thomas didn't tell me how it needed to be changed. Would he have meant it
should have been changed to "smallfamily? To clarify in this clean space
this is what I see:
(1) My directory name is 'smallfamily"
(2) On the "Open Web" dialog the folder name is A Small Schmahl Family
(3) The main folder in the Folders List is C:\Documents and
settings\dsg\My Documents\My Webs\A Small Schmahl Family)
(4) My home page is index.html with Title "A SMALL Schmahl Family"
(5) On Page Properties > General > Location > the reading is:
file:///C:/Documents and Settings/dsg/My Documents/My Webs/A Small Schmahl
Family/index.html

What do I need to fix? My preference is the way the Home Page's title reads
with all caps on the name SMALL.(and incidentally, are these caps bad? My
ISP's personal home pages are on a UNIX server if that makes any difference.
I thought I have seen that if in one place it is caps then the same phrase
seen in another place must be caps.
