Indenting a passage of text

S

How do I indent a section so that text wraps to the
indented location rather than to the left margin? What I
really want to do is use the features of bullets or
numbering without the bullets or numbers!

There are several ways to indent text on the left:

1. Press Ctrl+M. This indents the text to the first tab stop. If you haven't
set a specific tab stop, it will be to the first automatic tab stop (0.5").
Each time you press Ctrl+M, it will be indented farther. Press Ctrl+Shift+M
to reverse the process.

2. Drag the indent marker(s) on the ruler. You can do both left and right
indents this way.

3. Set the indent(s) in the Format | Paragraph dialog.

4. If you want a hanging indent, use Ctrl+T, which works similarly to Ctrl+M
but leaves the first line at the left margin (you can do this with the ruler
also).

5. The very best way to apply any indent is to apply a style. The built in
List styles (not List Bullet or List Number) have a hanging indent (and List
2 and above also have a left indent). The List Continue styles have a
progressively larger left indent. The Block Text style is indented both left
and right. All of these styles can be modified to suit your needs and
preferences.

Sharon,

You can indent a paragraph using the ruler (View | Ruler)
and clicking the bottom button and dragging it to the
indented location of your choice...

....or,

click in the paragraph, and Format | Paragraph | Indents
and Spacing, and set the left indent there.

....or,

use style-based formatting...
