indent text when using bullets

when using using bullets, if the amount of text extends to the next line it
does not indent to the same point as the bullet point. how can i do this, see
examople:
what happens...
*xyzxyzxyzxyzetc
xyzxyzxyz
what i would like to happen!
*xyzxyz
xyzxyzxyz

Use an indent setting if you want the text to line up with the bullet, or a
hanging indent and a tab if you want the text itself to line up (eg the
bullet 5mm from the margin, and all the text at 10mm). You can specify the
values on the Format > Paragraph dialog, or on the Bullets and Numbering >
Customize dialog.
