Incompatibility: Samsung 955DF and ATI

D

Dr. J

I have a few computers. In those computers are the following
hardware:

Computer1:
Radeon 8500DV

Computer2:
Radeon 9600XT

Computer3:
Radeon All In Wonder 9800 Pro

I also have other computers with other cards:

Computer4:
GeForce2 Ti

Computer5:
VooDoo3 3000 AGP

Computer6:
S3 Virge AGP

Now, on my other computers, this moniter is capable of 1600x1200 with
75Hz refresh.

However, on the ATI cards, if I go beyond 1280x1024, I have to use my
mouse to scroll around the screen.

I have posted before on this board and have found someone mentioning
something about my cable. That person has yet to tell me how to FIX
this problem. I have also noticed that there are other people with
similar problems with the 955DF. So I ask again, respectfully, can
anyone tell me how to fix this apperent incompatibility between my 2
SyncMasters and my 3 ATI Cards.

Please help. Thanx!

Install the drivers for your monitors, it came on a blue CD-ROM. Very
rare that its needed, but apparrently so.

But... I thought the 955DFs had a MAX refresh of 60hz in 1600x1200,
not 75... I guess Samsung changed it.

It cannot run 1600x1200 at 75Hz, it maxes out at 68Hz. I'm running at
1400x1050 at 75Hz and its running perfectly. I did have the same
problem as you though. To fix it, I went into the ATI control panel
(display properties ->advanced), clicked on the 'displays' tab, clicked
the oddly shaped button titled 'monitor, unchecked 'Use DDC Info.' and
changed the Max Resolution to 1600x1200. If you're interested in using
nonstandard resolutions, you'll need to get the Omega ATI drivers. If
there's some other way of doing it, I don't know what it is.

Thats the thing about it. I did install the drivers on that blue CD,
and then the latest drivers from Samsung, and it still happened.

Yeah, that is why I bought the moniter, it has that 75Hz refresh rate
that is just dandy, now if it would work on something other than my
VooDoo3 3000...

I had a Samsung 955DF and a 9600 Pro never had this problem. Yes the Samsung
maxes out at 68hz if you running 1600x1200. Ive always ran 1152x864 at 85hz.
I RMA'ed my monitor when it went out and requested a black one. They sent me
a 900DF and a 50 gift card to buy another samsung product. That was really
nice of them.

I appreciate that people are finally giving me solid answers for the
1st time, however, there is no attributes tab on my moniter display
settings with that button that you talked about. The other tabs,
adjustments and advanced are there, just not the one I need lol.
Does having windows 98SE make any difference?

Some videocards are a bit "off" on their refresh rates... The 955DF
is a "low" end Samsung19 monitor (Still, very good - I've sold quite a
few of them). and it *urked* me that it had a 60or so max refresh
rate.

But Samsung has MORE monitors than they know they have. Look up their
website... They may show about 5 models, but they really have about
12 or so... stuff that costs $1000~2500 - nothing... or used to.

My 900nf - hard to locate ;)

I used to have the FIRST Samsung Flat tube 19" = the 900ITF model. So
much nicer than the current ones. The roll-out door, the ANALOG
Brightness and Contrast controls.... I RMAed it the last month... no
problem...

But I was unlucky in that the replacement monitors were bad.... Some
varient of the 900ITF had a NO DOOR all digital control. And the
stupid HIGHLYLIGHT feature... which is a pain to turn off when its
accidently turned on!

On the 3rd monitor - they were busy - was on hold for about 5mins, I
was xfered some another dept where they took my number... called me
back the next day. And traded me out for the 900NF I have today...

I got the flip door now... BUT the brightness and Contrast are digital
built into the door - so its ALWAYS open now (crap!) - but I have a
sharper monitor... top of the line. 2048x1550 something max res ;)

but I much prefer analog controls...

I thought the 900NF was discontinued...

I have Samsung 213T and it won't deliver 1600X1200 on ATI mobil Radeon
7500 in an IBM T30 Thinkpad. IBM, Samsung and ATI all deny
responsibility. Any ideas?

D

Darthy

1 - The monitor will generally do what its designed for...

the 213T is the 21" LCD model, I assume and its designed to work at
1600x1200

When dealing with Mobile chips, ATI provides the "core" - but the
notebook manufacture is responsable for the TIGHT intergration with
the rest of the notebook hardware.

So...

2 - Does the ATI Mobile chip support 1600x1200 (I assume it does) -
but using that mode on a VGA port on an LCD is never going to look
good... you really need to use the DVI for a crisp picture.

3 - Problem is with IBM, they control the video driver / memory
controller of the notebook.
