Ok i get alot of mail into my windows email account that contains viruses.
The problem is that i cannot work out how to change my settings so that if i
wish to click on it once to delete it, i can do this safely. Yahoo email has
a checkbox that can be checked and then deleted without touching the actual
incoming message itself. I have tried unchecking the preview pane thinking
that might work but just the other day i got an email and thinking it would
be safe to just highlight it and delete it i did that and my antivirus picked
up a trojan which i have now gotten rid of. I couldnt delete the file from my
inbox so i ended up removing my account all together and then i was able to
delete it. Im not sure if i will reactivate this email account at all as this
is one thing that i really dont like about windows mail.

Is there a safe way to highlight these messages and delete without
unintentionally opening them? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

I always thought that in windows email you would have to double click on
message to open attachment but the one i opened other day i just clicked the
once and it must have opened.

Except for .JPG images, attachments cannot be opened by single-
clicking on the message.

If you don't want a message to open when you click on it, disable
the preview pane: View, Layout, uncheck "Show preview pane".

Incidentally, the newer Windows Live Mail will not allow you to open
a message that has been classifies as Junk E-mail. You are welcome
to upgrade: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Hi Gary, thanks very much for your reply. I might give the new upgrade a try.

I disabled the preview pane ages ago and was under the impression also that
just clicking once on an attachment wouldnt cause it to open. Previously to
get rid of a suspicious file i would click on one that i knew was safe, move
all the others that i wished to keep into a separate folder and then click on
select all and then delete. I kept thinking that there had to be an easier
way haha. But this time i just clicked the once on the suss one to remove it
(it wouldnt let me remove it) then next thing i know i have a warning from my
antivirus saying that a trojan was picked up in windows mail. I know this
wasnt a false reading as i knew by the look of the email that it was suss.

I get so much suss email into this account and im not sure why as i mostly
use my yahoo address when signing up for things online.

Thanks again for your help :)
