Incoming emails use sender's User Name

I currently have about 700 contacts in my outlook database. All are active
and I cull the inactives regularily. I generally remember my contacts by
first name which is fine for those that have a user name in their systems
that is <firstname> <lastname>. What creates a huge issue for me is contacts
that have a user name that is <lastname> <firstname> or worse
(e-mail address removed).
I have all of my contacts files as <firstname><lastname> and their emails
are to display as <firstname><lastname> ([email protected]). That works fine
for outgoing mail but is there anyway for Outlook (Outlook 2002 SP1) to
identifiy the INCOMING email address and display it how I want it displayed
rather than how the person who is sending has it labelled? For example, I
have John Smith's email to display as John Smith([email protected]). But
if John Smith's user name is "Fundraising dept" (just happended to run into
this) his sent from shows up as his user name, which causes huge issues when
I search for emails from John later on. Its also a huge issue because Outlook
does not recognize my "Display as" if I reply to Johns message so when I
search for my response to his email I have trouble finding it because I have
to find it by looking for his user name, which I very seldon know.
Is there any way to get Outlook to recognize the incoming email address and
link it with MY "display as" name as opposed to the sender's user name? seems
to make sense but I cannot find a way to make it happen.

No, the display name of messages you receive is a property of the sender and
not the receiver.

Is there any way that this will ever be addressed? I have some contacts that
use the same email address but apply different user names over time. As far
as I am concerned, its the same person. If they want to change thier user
name good on them but, since it is MY system that thier email is coming in
to, I should be able to identify them as I want. Make sense to anyone?

You can make a suggestion to Microsoft for it. Motivate why it would be
handy to have and how it would benefit others as well and it might be added
in a later version (don't expect it to show up in the next version as it is
too late for that; features for that version have been decided on already).

You could create a sort rule and store them in individually-named e-mail
folders. Doesn't change the display name, but does make it easy to find.

Another way is to go to the contact, choose activities and then choose
email. The problem with this is that it takes a while to process (but not too
bad) and it only tracks email #1, which I find very strange. If I have a
client that sends me info with multiple emails I can only track the first
email address, not #2 or 3 even though I have these emails ID'd in contacts.
Probably another little glitch that I should inform MS about.
Thanks for your input
