Inbox not updating

R

Rich

We have many users who are indicating that Outlook 2002,
Exchange server is indicating mail has been received. It
shows a given number of unopened items in parenthesis to
the right of their inbox, but the mail will not actually
show up in the inbox until the user either closes and re-
opens Outlook or clicks off the inbox folder and onto
another folder, then clicks back on the inbox.

Rich,

This symptom definitely sounds like UDP packets are not getting to the
client from the server. This is generally caused by a firewall (on the
client or between the client and the server) or either of the issues in the
following articles.

Thanks for the info, unfortunatley been there, done
that. Applied the Force Polling entries to the registry,
removed all RPC protocols except IP, Set binding order to
reflect IP only, this applies to all OS's. We're stumped.

The ForcePolling key will force Outlook to pull down new messages (if any)
from the server every seconds. Are you saying that with this key in place
Outlook does not pull down new email every 60 seconds (approximately)? If
ForcePolling is definitely not working please post the version number of
OUTLLIB.dll from one of the machines. This key will only work if you have a
certain level for this file.

We are using hte Outllib.dll v 10.0.3513.0 which comes
with SP1. Correct, the registry entries aren't
present/do not apply until this is applied. Yes, it is
polling every 60 seconds, and the number in parenthesis
indicates there is in fact new mail, but the client does
not update/show it in the inbox until you navigate away
and return. I have read many posts regarding this and we
have been researching the issue for several months now to
no avail. I really beleive there is a client refresh
issue or something to that effect. We can even force a
send and receive which will, in some cases (if new mail
is available) increase the number of unopened items, but
they will not appear in the inbox until you naviagte away
then return. Strange.

That's definitely is a strange one. I have never seen the forcepolling key
not work.

Do you know if this problem occurs:

1. In Windows Safe Mode with Networking support?

2. If you start Outlook with the /safe switch?

Thanks
