For WMI can't work correctly, i have to perform in-place upgrade as follow.

Method 1: Reinstall Windows XP by using Windows XP
To reinstall Windows XP by using Windows XP, follow these steps: 1. Start
your computer.
2. Insert the Windows XP CD in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
drive.
3. On the Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP page, click Install Windows
XP.
4. On the Welcome to Windows Setup page, click Upgrade (Recommended)
in the Installation Type box (if it is not already selected), and then click
Next.
5. On the License Agreement page, click I accept this agreement, and
then click Next.
6. On the Your Product Key page, type the 25-character product key in
the Product key boxes, and then click Next.
7. On the Get Updated Setup Files page, select the option that you
want, and then click Next.
8. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall
Windows XP.

Does this affect the programs that i have installed on the PC. Will those be
still useful after the upgrade??

thank you

For a Repair Install, see:

A Repair Install should leave your data and programs intact, but it is
always wise to back up your data first. Stuff Happens.

To do a complete Clean Install (which will get rid of everything on the
system partition), see:

you'll need to have on hand.

Maybe off target but why do you have to reinstall Windows? Reinstalling
WMI is an easy as pie 3 step process that takes about less than a
minute, did you try it?

1- Stop the WMI service.
2- Delete the WMI repository directory.
3- Restart the WMI service.

I have done as you told me, but it's all the same as before.

Could you tell me how to reintall only WMI?

That's it, the three steps described earlier, that's how you reinstall
WMI. See here:
http://whidbey.msdn.microsoft.com/l...library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

I just thought in my earlier post that I should mention it, maybe for
the sake of a minor procedure it might save you having to do an In-place
upgrade. If it didn't work then the in-place upgrade might be the only
recourse. Read here for more information and answers to questions you
might have:

How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/

What an in-place Windows 2000 upgrade changes and what it does not change
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306952/
(Written for Windows 2000 but pretty well the same for Windows XP)

Anything is possible when you do a reinstallation, it usually goes
fairly well but backup your important data because disaster can strike!
As to your original question, yes this could affect some of your
programs and they may need to be reinstalled, along with all your
hotfixes and updates from Microsoft.

It's should be enough to resolve the problem, at least to tell me what i
want to know. I will have a try latter.
