it is impossible to sheare folders and the printer. Also a ping between PCs
don't give
results.

I use automatic DHCP.
I deactivated WinXP Firewall on both PCs
I gave exceptions to the Antivirus to open the IP range on both PCs
On both PCs the group has the same name "Workgroup"

Pings to the router work
Pings to the modem work

In the past I used fixed IPs and so the PCs culd share folders and the
printer!

How can I do the same with DHCP?

Thanks to Malke for previous suggestions.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

What is the exact error message / observation when "it is impossible to sheare
folders and the printer", and when "a ping between PCs don't give results"?

That's a good place to start. We aren't there with you to see the details.

Simple file sharing needs to be setup. Guest user account must exist on both
PC.

OR

Each XP user accounts must exist on each PC. This will then permit the PCs to
see the files.

Unknown is OK, but you can change it if you wish.

I don't think that will solve your problems though. It would help greatly, if
you were to expand upon "it is impossible to sheare folders and the printer.
Also a ping between PCs don't give results.".
