in line with text grayed out

Something has happened and now all inserted pictures into my Word 2002
document are floating and the in line with text layout button is grayed out.
I tried a macro to convert it to in line, but when I did, the picture
disappears but the frame remains.

I don't have my spacing set to a specific amount and it worked last week and
I can't remember what I did differently or what new upgrade or program I
might have added - but something has happened. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Is this happening only in the one document? Or also in a new document? If in
new docs, as well, if you hold down the CTRL key to start Word in Safe Mode,
does it still happen?

How about if you boot Windows in Safe Mode?

Wow, in Word safe mode [ctrl when starting Word], the feature works. But, in
regular Word, it is a problem in all documents - not just one. Thoughts and
thanks for answering....

Thank you - deleting the key worked. I appreciate it very much.
