Impossible URL Scrub

J

J

I have had a problem recurring for about a month now. A
select few websites that I browsed approximately a month
before today have been stuck in my URL bar perminently. No
matter what registry keys or IE scrubs I use, they will
not be removed. No problems occur until I initially begin
typing a similar URL

FOr Example, no URL's present until i type "www.c"

Then results for some CNN/coldwar URL appear, which I
visited for a school reference about a month ago.

Is there anyway to erase these seemingly permanent URL's?
Feel free to contact my email address, and I would
sincerely appreciated any solid support. Its getting on my
nerves.

Here are a few things i've tried:

Deleting History/Cache/Cookies
Using purgeIE.exe
Erasing certain registry keys "TypedURLs"
Reinstalling/updating

Thanks again

Hello Dan.

Thanks for the advice, and for a moment I was convinced it
would work. I ran the program and it said that all of
those sites, the CNN, my School work sites, and a bunch of
others were removed. However upon restarting internet
explorer, they returned. As a matter of fact, they
returned sooner than that. I could run the history eraser
every second, and every time it was run, the same sites
would be erased, but always present. It seems I've
contracted some unlucky hex? Or maybe the computer gods
just hate me.

If you or anybody else has any ideas, I'd love some more
advice.

Thanks again Dan

IE can look at your desktop to launch files so when you're
typing an address and you happen to have a file on your
desktop it may auto complete things for you. I doubt this
helps but it's worth a try.

Hi Jordan - Do the following, but you MUST CLOSE ALL INSTANCES OF IE first.

To delete ALL Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and download and
install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm See below for Selective Delete.

You can also get DelSearchMRU.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelSearchMRU.inf

Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete. To remove
hidden AutoComplete entries in History:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm#AutoComplete

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this (these) .inf files. Otherwise, they will be restored to
the Registry when you close IE.

A nice alternative just for selective or all Address (not Search) history
maintenance is EditURLs, here: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/ Here also,
you must close ALL instances of IE6 for the deletions to "take".
