impossible to login because domain is not available?

I'm running a wireless/wired network in my house using a
D-Link router, a wired computer running XP Pro, a
wireless laptop running XP Pro, and a wireless computer
running XP Pro. I run these all in a workgroup called
WORKGROUP. My computer upstairs is called "upstairs", the
laptop is "laptop" and the computer downstairs
is "downstairs."
My mother is having trouble with her "downstairs"
computer. When she tries to log in, she gets the
message "the system cannot log you on now because the
domain DOWNSTAIRS is not available."
I've tried rebooting my router, and using an ethernet
cable to connect her downstairs computer. She still gets
the message and cannot log on. What can we do?

You don't have a domain. Take a look at system properties, computername,
change button. Make sure your workgroup name is in the workgroup box.

I understand that I'm on a workgroup and there is no
domain, but I'm not sure how I could possibly change this
setting as I can't log onto the computer. How can I get
in without logging in?

On your logon screen, click on the options button and make sure this
computer is selected in third box.
