importing .pst files

I am trying to import old .pst files from a hard drive i have connected to a
new computer. The files are from outlook 2003, and the new computer also has
the same version. Every time I try to open the old .pst using the 'open data
file' option i get an error message and outlook needs to restart.

Can anyone help me to retrieve the old contact information?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

As posted on almost a daily basis in all the Outlook groups - do NOT use the
import function to transfer data from one Outlook to another.

Hi Gordon, I did not use the import function - I used the open 'data file'
option and then chose the old pst. from its location.

Sorry, missed that bit! Try moving it to your internal HDD, remove any
Read-Only attribute and open it from there.

You're the one who said you were "importing".

Have you tried using the Inbox Repair Tool (SCANPST) on the PST?

I have moved pst to internal HDD, but still getting error message.
Where would read only attribute be? The folder the pst is in does not have
any such file.

Right-click on the pst file, choose properties and look on the General tab
at the bottom...

I have done as you say, and indeed errors were found in the pst file. I then
reaired the files and attempted to reopen in outlook as data file but once
again, error report:
AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 11.0.8206.0 AppStamp:479fce0d
ModName: msmapi32.dll ModVer: 11.0.8200.0 ModStamp:472f94b0
fDebug: 0 Offset: 000ff6b7

Have you any further suggestions?

Try renaming the MSMAPI.DLL file (which should be in the same folder as
SCANPST), then using Help>Detect and Repair.
