Importing Messages

Having gotten WM up and running again, I now need to reimport the messages
that were present before it stopped launching, etc. They are in a separate
folder, called "WMSAVE", from the "Windows Mail" folder. When I try to
import them, I get a dialog that says:

Windows Mail can't import messages from here. There either were no messages
present in the folder (editorial note: false) or another application has
them in use (editorial note (2): false to the best of my knowledge)

I'm trying to import them as WinMail 7 messages.

What needs to be done to get these messages imported?

Perhaps the directory needs to be named "Windows Mail" instead of
"WMSAVE". Since you can't have two identically named files or folders
under the same parent directory, you may have to move WMSAVE to
someplace like Documents before renaming it.

I can't imagine that would matter. Windows Mail isn't complaining about the
folder name not matching: it's complaining that there aren't any messages in
the folder (definitely false) or the messages are being used by another
application (also, I believe, false.)

Surely there is some solution???

Have you tried opening the folder side by side, with WM, (resize the
Windows), and drag n drop the messages to named folders within WM?

Don't assume that the error message you get from Windows Mail
is accurate. What does it hurt to try my suggestion?

Make sure the path is correct and not "doubled". See the part in red here
(www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm) for importing from OE to WM. The same
happens when importing from WM to WM.

If it still doesn't work, try dragging and dropping the messages as mac
suggested.

I opened Explorer and navigated to the locations where the E-mails were
cached and dragged and dropped them into the correct corresponding WM folders
and this worked.

I believe this (or something similar) is what you were suggesting I try.

Thanks!

This didn't work.

Thanks anyway!

Pleased you got them back, I use that method more than the import.
