hi, i am a help desk worker.
i have a user who is trying to import some files into an application we use
(its call logging software), using access 97.
but when he does this he gets "record too large" there are about 5-6 files he
is trying to import and they range in size form 6MB to 28 MB. it dosent say
what one is too large, or by how much or anything.
I dont know much about access at all apart form how to install it ect but
need to get a fix for this user is possible.
can anyone tell me why he woudl be getting this error? is there a solution?
and how can you stop it in future if possible.

Cheers guys

Wullie

This has nothing to do with the size of the files beng imported. Once of the
rows in the source file is too large to be a table row. What kind of data is
the user trying to import? Excel file, .csv Text file, etc.?

thanks for reply.
he is trying to import .txt files. they were .csv files but for some reason
he has changed the extension to txt.

thanks again Klatuu.

First, it is better if he does not change the name. A .csv text file is a
little different than a .txt file.
..cvs files are comma delimited text files. To import it, from the main
menu, File->Get External Data->Import.
A Dialog box will guide the user through the import. The user will have to
specifiy whether there is a header row, and that the field delimiter is
comma, and that there are no text delimiters. He should then be able to
browse through the info in the dialog box and identify which columns to
import.
I would also suggest opening the file using Notepad, and looking to see how
many fields are in each row and how long rows are.
