Importing from Outlook

T

thndrbrd13

When I open Windows Mail, and go to File, Import, Messages, Outlook, I
immediately get a popup box saying that Windows Mail has stopped working. I
need to import .pst files from Outlook 2000 from a previous computer. I
haven't used Windows Mail yet.

I get this error when I try Microsoft Exchange or Outlook, but not when I
select Outlook Express 6 or Windows Mail 7.

My computer is about a month old and came with Microsoft Windows Vista Home
Premium Edition. The antivirus it came with is Norton Internet Security
Version 10.2.0.30.

I've tried removing everying from the Windows Mail folder at C:\users\(your
username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail, and starting over, but the
problem persists.

Any help is much appreciated!

The only way to import any OL data on this machine is for OL to be installed
and using the data you want to import into Windows Mail.

One workaround would be to import the OL data into Outlook Express (OE) on
the other machine, then back-up the OE data for transfer to Windows Mail on
the Vista machine.

If you want your OL contacts, export them as a CSV file which can then be
imported into Windows Mail Contacts.

I have tried importing a CSV file saved from Outlook Express on my old XP
machine to a flash drive in Windows Mail Contacts on my new machine. I get a
popup msg box with no message. Not very helpful... any hints?

Why not just take your Outlook Express Address book (.WAB) file to your
Vista machine and double click it? That's all I had to do to import my OE
contacts into Windows Mail...

Copy the CSV file from the flash drive to an empty folder in your Documents
folder. Then import from there. Windows Mail is fussy about doing import/export
directly from external media.
