importing from excel -outlook hides contact folder!

I want to import a couple hundred email addresses from an excel file. I named
the range successfully but when I have closed the excel file and browsed in
the import wizard in Outook and selected the file to import, instead of
seeing my various contacts folders as my destination, I see either a blank
screen (no choices at all) or an archive pst folder which seems to have no
contacts in it to import into.
Using Outlook 2003 and excel 03. I had a colleague (whom I'm trying to help,
actually) do it with me over the phone and she apparently does see her
contacts folder but her last 'next' or 'import' button (not positive which
she's seeing) is greyed out, so we are both stumped!. I've tried it starting
in contacts, in a contacts sub-folder, in the inbox, and in calendar, never
get to see my contacts folders!

Re: your issue of not seeing any folders to select as a destination

Suggest you run a detect & repair on your system to see if that corrects the
problem. If not - run ScanPST to clear up any errors that may exist in your
PST file.

Re: Your friend's issue of the button being greyed out - if it's on the
window that I think you're referring to, on the left hand side there will be
a listbox with one or more folder choices with checkboxes (under the label
"The following actions will be performed) - the checkbox needs to be checked
for the target folder before the buttons become active (buttons = #1) Map
Custom Fields #2) Change Destination).

Thanks, Karl. Unfortunately, detect and repair says the installation source
is not available. (was preloaded but I put the CD in the drive - no matter).
Will research Scanpst to find out what that is. I do note that when I click
on the address book icon the 'contacts' folder is unavailable (this address
list could not be displayed) and my main contacts are in 'contacts1'. I
probably made an error when I moved my old pst to this newer computer.

From your description in this message - sounds like you need to do is either
recreate (or add) the Outlook Address Book) which is probably the cause of
the problem (ergo - running ScanPST won't solve your problem).

ScanPST is a utility that is used to correct any errors that occur over time
within a PST file. For O'2003 - you should find it by following this path on
your system:
c:\program files\common files\system\msmapi\1033 - (where C:\ = default
drive and 1033 indicates local language setting = US English)

Thanks, Karl.
I did run scanPst this morning (forgot to check this board!) and it claimed
to have found and error(s) and repaired them, but you are right, OAB may be
the problem.
I'll look in Help to get some advice on that.
