Importing entries from "Contacts" into "Outlook address book"

Running MS Office 2002
1. Instructions for setting up "Outlook Address book" are: Go to
"Tools--E-mail accounts--Directory" Choose "Add a new directory or address
book.
2. This set up "Outlook address book -- Type -- MAPI
3. When the address book icon on the toolbar is clicked---"show names from
Outlook Address Book" is chosen, the box is blank with " No entries in this
address book"
Problem: How to import infor from "contacts" folder into "Outlook address
book" with I assume a (.PAB) file ending verses the (.PST) file ending
associated with "contacts?

Assumption is not correct. Outlook does not use a PAB and there is nothing
to import.
