Importing DBF File with Ling File Name

P

Prabhat

Hi All,

I am Trying to Import a .DBF File (Dbase5 File) into MS Access 2000
Installed in Windows 2000 Server + SP4. When I tried to Import After
Selecting the File I get the Below Message:

---------------------------------
Error Source: Microsoft JET Database Engine

Error Description: The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the
object 'bct 072303'. Make sure the object exists and that you speel its name
and the path name corretly.
----------------------------------

I am Importing the File which has file name more then 8 characters long. I
am able to Import if the file name has 8+3 file format. But in Windows 2000
Proff Ed. That Works Fine with Any File Name Length. But not in Windows 2000
Server Ed. What is the Prob in Win 2000 Server Ed that Prevent me from using
the .dbf files having more then 8+3 file name?

Thanks
Prabhat

It is not an OS issue it has laways been an Acces issue (or a dBase issue
depending on your point of view.)
They *have* to be in DOS 8.3 format. That is "just the way it is".
So write code to re-name the files and then import them.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply. But If the Same MS Access can Import the DBF Files
which has Long File Names in Windows 2000 Proff Ed. then Why not in the
Windows 2000 Server Eds?

Because I am Able to Import the Files using MS Access if Installed in Win
2000 Proff but not in a Win 2000 Server ed. Could you please explain that
situation.

[The Same Problem also Exists in the SQL Server DTS - dbase5 Connection. It
works fine in Win 2000 Proff But not in Server.]

Thanks
Prabhat
