importing and capturing with WMM2.1

i am unable to capture/ import .mpg video files into WMM/ i m using pleaxtor
device which is a hardware mpeg1/2 and mpeg4 encoder/i captured with
supplid software and wanted to edit in WMM but no avail . am i right to
understand that WMM will not capure from hardware(mpeg 1/2/4) encoder device
and also it will not import .mpg files and i will need to convert files into
either .AVI or .WMV format / all help suggetion greatly apriciated /
