Imported Contacts Categories

Two questions:

1) I have a friend who imported her contacts in Outlook 2007 from her
desktop to her laptop. The contacts are all there, along with their
categories, but the categories do not have any color and they do not appear
when choosing All Categories.

2) Is there a way to display all categories when viewing contacts, even
those that do not have any contacts assigned to them?

Thank

Importing is never the proper way to migrate Outlook data from one Outlook
instance to another. You lose all kinds of stuff when you do.

Display your Contacts in the By Category table format and you'll see your
contacts grouped by category, with a "none" group for those contacts without
a category.

Is there another way to get the data from one computer to another?

I understand that all my contacts without categories appear at the top when
I sort By Category. What I am looking for is for all my categories to appear
in this view whether or not they have been assigned to a contact. In other
words, a category name, but not followed by any contacts. By looking at
other people's posts, maybe I can get what I'm looking for by
right-clicking/Categorize?

#1 Copy the pst file, open it on the target pc and move the messages to your
pst file. If you have to do that frequently you might consider to use a tool
for synchronizing.

#2 Outlook itself only shows a category if there's at least one item
assigned. What would you need that for?
