important networking problem!

On some machines I see the following:
I have one NIC card connected to an etherent ADSL modem and it works fine.
I have a second nic card conected to a small network with another computer.
On the small network file transfer works correctly as a network should, but
ICS does not work!
I mean the computer that has the adsl modem cannot sent the internet to the
other computer for some reason.
I get an opening page in internet explorer... as if its trying to connect
but it cant.
also msn messenger tries to connect for a long time but afterwards it fails!
I have used the same configuration on other machines and it works, but on
some it doesnt!

I cannot understand what is happening....

anyone has any ideas? Please help!

Your best solution would be to buy a simple router. The DSL
modem would connect to the router and each computer would
connect to the router. Advantages in that you would not
have to have the primary computer on in order to connect
using the second computer and the router acts as a firewall.

But to try to answer your question, have you check
properties for each computer to make sure ICS is allowed and
they have the TCP/IP protocol set.

Greetings,

Well,
did you run the ICS wizard?

The wizard can be a bit tricky - make sure TCP/IP is installed on BOTH NICs
before installing ICS.

Some good tips here -
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ics/icsclient_tcpip_manual.htm

Or did you set it up manually?

Typically,
the TCP/IP on the other PC should have :
* auto IP
* auto DNS
* gateway -> internet PC (usually 192.168.0.1)

Some issues that can cause trouble:

* having different workgroups

* having different user accounts (it often helps to log on to both PCs with
the same name)

This is a common problem with shared DSL connections that use PPP Over
Ethernet (PPPoE). Here are some possible fixes. Any one of them
should solve the problem:

1. Install Windows XP Service Pack 1 on the ICS host computer.

2. Find the right MTU setting on the client computer, as shown here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107

and then make the setting manually on the client computer, or use
DrTCP to make it:

http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html

3. Download the free RASPPPoE program and install it on the host
computer. Use it instead of XP's PPPoE program. Details at these
sites:

You need to check these points:

One - do not have a Firewall in action on the connection between the
machines; just the one out from the 'host' to the internet.

In Network connections, r-click that Internet connection, Properties and
make sure that you have the Advanced page 'allow other network users to
connect through. . .' checked. Then r-click on the one to the other
machine; Properties, select the TCP/IP service, take Its Properties and
make sure
It is on 'Use following IP address' 192.168.0.1, subnet mask
255.255.255.0 and have it selected to 'Use the following DNS', leaving
both entries blank. Click Advanced and in the WINS page have 'Enable
NETBIOS over TCPIP' selected., and LMHOSTS not checked (that is probably
right as FTP is working).

The settings in the client machine will be similar to the one for that
connection in the host, except that have 'Obtain an IP address
automatically. You may have to disable and reenable it to make sure it
picks up an IP address in the 192.168.0.x range - mine for some reason
tends to try a 164. . . . one, that is not good news
