Import text file drops leading zero

I am trying to import a text file in which the first
column is a 10-digit number. This number has a leading
zero. When it is imported into Excel the leading zero is
dropped off and I am left with a nine-digit number. I
have tried formatting the cells as text, etc. to no
avail. Is there a way to import the data and keep the
leading zero?

If indeed it is a text file then the text import wizard should start, in
step three you can select text under column data format.
Then click finish and the zero will be there

Thank you, that worked like a charm!
