import of pst files - operation failed

has any one had this problem :
I was running windows 2000 professional sp1 with outlook
2000 sr-1, This was preinstalled.

My machine was then affected with ms blaster virus.
which caused my machine to fail

I had not backed up the emails

I then had someone backup the old data & rebuild the
machine they
reinstalled windows 2000 professional plus sp4 then
installed outlook 2000

they then put the old backed up data on the machine

I tried to then import the old pst files from backed up
data, there appears to be three files :

archive.pst 83.7 meg
extend.dat
outlook.pst 127 meg

when I use the import function within outlook and select
other file option and select pst file , then add one of
the pst files above it fails with operation failed

can any one help with how I can import the old emails ?

Don't use the import function, just point it to use those
folders and close / resetart, that will automatically take
care of the issue...
Post it if you need help with ppinting it to the files :-0
Good Luck,

Use Drag and Drop from the new set to the old. Then set your delivery to
the new .pst file and "close" the old .pst (right click on the root, and
select Close.)

sorry don't understand , was wanting help on
sal's reply below.. Don't use the import function, just
point it to use those folders and close / resetart, that
will automatically take care of the issue...

1. first issue I am having is I am using a new set of
files for outlook

2. not sure how I point to the old set of outlook files,
that outlook was using prior to my rebuild in conjunction
with the new set now ?

This is so I can retrieve old emails and contacts

the old files that outlook was using now exist are under
the following directory:
c:/ backup data /mark alexander.dhzj30j/local
settings/application data/microsoft/outlook

The files are :
archive.pst 83.7 meg
extend.dat
outlook.pst 127 meg
