Import from FoxPro

I just bought Access 2003 and I'm trying to import data from a FoxPro file.
I've tried a couple different ways and all I get is a link to the FoxPro file
even though I'm asking for an import.

I need to modify the database structure and add some fields, all of which
can't be done with the linked file.

I've hit my frustration point and can't see what I'm missing. Everything I
read says I have the option of importing or linking, but all my efforts at
import fail.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Phill,

Have you tried using the FoxPro and Visual FoxPro ODBC driver, downloadable
from the link below my sig? You will need to set up an ODBC data source to
the table. Use the free table option unless there is a DBC file present; if
that is the case use the DBC option.

Have you considered linking to the file and using a query to copy the data
to a file you have created in your MDB?

Thanks for the note. I'm not familiar with the drivers you mentioned so will
have to look into them

I did try creating another file from a query, but I ended up with two linked
files, neither of which I could modify.

I have been succesful in exporting the original data to an ASCII delimited
file and then importing that to the Access, but that method drops the memo
fields, some of which are needed for my application. I have 31,600 entries
and I'd like to make this transfer without having to reenter data in the six
memo fields.

I was also successful in dumping to a DBase file, but Access still wants to
link instead of import, even when Im confident that I'm following the book.

I'll have to look into those drivers and see what they're about or if I
already have them on my system. Thanks
