Import/Export of Contacts causes Oulook to freeze

Hi, I'm using Outlook 2007 ( I have the office 2007 suite), everytime I try
to import or export contacts outlook craches. When I go to the event viwer
there's an error with an even Id of 1000 and inside it states:

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 12.0.6423.1000, stamp 49b08185,
faulting module oladd.fae, version 12.0.6413.1000, stamp 4902bc3d, debug? 0,
fault address 0x00008c24.

I have tired to uninstall reinstall, remove oladd.fae and do a repair, and I
have also tried the office diagnostics tools, I've also tried running Outlook
in safe mode, still no luck. I've tried looking for a solution on the web
still no luck. I hoping I could get some help here.

You provided no information.
First question is why would you ever use import and export to transfer
Contacts?
Second question: precisely what are you doing that generates the error
message?

Russ;

What I'm trying to do is import a list of about 250 contacts that are kept
in an excel spreadsheet, that's kept up to date by someone other than me.
Outlook craches right after it starts importing the contacts, by which I
mean, I can go through the whole wizard telling it what file to import and
where to import it to and map the feilds which all seems to go ok, it's when
Outlook is actually moving the contacts into my contacts folder that it
craches. I also tired to export contacts just to see if that was working but
the same thing happens the wizard works fine until it is actually copying the
contacts out, as soon as that starts outlook craches, it doesn't matter what
type of file I try to export the contacts to (CVS, excel, pst) it always
craches with the same error generated in event viwer. I have setup Outlook on
a diffrent computer and it has no problems importing the excel spreadsheet. I
hope that's enough information for you.

Karl thanks for the link but I've already checked it out, I haven't had
Exchagne tools installed on this system.

Are you running the latest updates for your version? Have you run Office
diagnostics to repair your installation?

J

I have all the updates for my version, just to be sure I double checked right
now and there are no updates for me to download. I have already tired the
Office diagnostics, and tried the repair option form the Office install CD.
It still does the exact same thing.

Have you run ScanPST on your PST file? (Didn't see that included in the list
of things you've tried).

Given your description - problem would appear to be related to one of the
two following possibilities:

#1 - A corrupt PST file (given that the issue occurs both on import and
export, you can use the same Excel file on another system which excludes it
from being the cause) OR (less likely but possible) .........
#2 - Similar to the Exch tools scenario - something has been installed that
would be Outlook/Exch related (3rd party) and replaced the Mapi components
with their own

Does this problem occur if you create a new PST file/contact folder and
import the Excel file into the new target? If that works, then the issue
most certainly is related to the PST file and ScanPST <may possibly but not
with 100% certainty> correct the problem and definitely excludes anything
MAPI related from the equation.

Just ran scanpst, and I still have the same issue, if i create a new folder/
pst file the issue still occrus, if I make a new profile (under Mail in
control panel) I still get the same issue. This is a pretty new install, only
things that have been installed are Office Suite, firefox, Syamntec Anti
Virus (I've tried disabling it and uninstalling it), ZoneAlarm (tried
disabling it and unistalling it) and Ad aware (tired disabling it and
uninstalling it). I thank both you guys for your time, and efforts.

Others may have some other suggestions but if this were one of my systems -
would start over again starting with a complete fresh install of the OS
especially if this is a "relatively" new install. Under the current
circumstances - the time it will take to do that will likely be less than
continued efforts in finding out what caused/is causing your problem (but I
would bet that it is not a Microsoft Outlook problem - leastwise not one of
its own making). Once the basic install is done for Win/Office along with
all the corresponding updates - would try the import/export again and keep
monitoring it as you install additional programs.

Would also highly recommend having something like "Acronis True Image" in
your arsenal for backup purposes - have found Acronis products to be
absolutely invaluable saving literally untold hundred's of hours of recovery
time (providing you are religious in keeping everything current in terms of
backups).
