IMAP Download to WMail

I am new to Windows Vista and Mail, previously used XP and Outlook.

I setup WM with CompuServe's IMAP account. I thought that when I saw the
emails in the Inbox they were permanently downloaded and saved to the
computer. So I deleted them from CompuServe's New Mail using
CompuServeS2000 program in the old computer. Then when I opened WM in the
new computer the Inbox was empty but all the emails in the Junk Box folder
were there. Why in one and not the other?

What do I have to do to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

IMAP stores the original emails on the server.
When you make changes at either end (server or client computer), those
changes will propagate ('sync') to the other end.
In other words, when you delete a message from the server, the local copy
will be deleted also. You can optionally disable syncing of specific mail
folders of an IMAP account.
