Image Folders - Additonal

G

Guest

Please help me ! I am trying to set out my gallery website - when I insert
and image and then save the page, I am asked to OK the file to which the
image file will be 'embedded'. It seems that if I try to create a new folder,
within the default image folder, for the artists name, or type of piece or
what have you, the picture will not show on the site. Am I supposed to leave
all images, which could someday be thousands, in one folder called 'images' ?

Can I create sub folder inside images folder for each artist? I've got the
dummies book, and other things, seem to have trouble finding this out. In
practice, it seems that only images in the 'images' folder will actually
work, even if I create a new folder with the embed image prompt. Hope I am
making sense.

THANKS!

Create the new sub folders under Images first, then Import your optimized
and resized pictures into the individual artists folder BEFORE you place
them into your webpage design. And, of course you are working with a
web/site opened first right?

Thanks for the help. I am going to try the subfolders now. Can I create a
sub folder for the artist and use it to store the images and the relevant
pages? Or do images have to be separate from the rest.

I appreciate the help.

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

It depends on what makes sense to you. You can create subfolders under
IMages for images for each artist and put their pages in there too if you
want. For me it would prbably make more sense to put the artist folder under
the root and put their pages and images in the same folder...but you can do
whatever makes organizational sense to you.

Thanks for the info. I do appreciate it. I was not sure if putting a
non-image file in the image folder, which is maybe a default folder, would be
a waste of time. I'm trying to establish what is going to be most efficient,
imagining a monster site w/ thousands of each type file.......thanks again.
I'll give it a go.

Hello again,

First I tried dragging the image files into FP - the new image subfolder I'd
created - titled 'archive jewelry'. Did not work, function. Then - I read
your advice more carefully, that I should 'import' the files.

I deleted the image subfolder 'archive jewelry' and what had been added to
the page 'archive jewelry'. I recreated an image subfolder by the same name,
and imported the images via image folder created and titled 'archive
jewelry'. Appeared just fine, made changes to said page just fine. Did not
function.

Deleted everything again. Imported the images to a subfolder I'd created in
FP titled 'archive jewelery' one at a time, appeared just fine, made changes.
Did not function.

Pretty perplexing....help...?

If you are talking about FP generated photogalleries, yes, you may have a
problem mucking around with them like that.

If you are talking about galleries that you made yourself, it should work
but if your images you imported are the same name as the images you already
have...it's easier to delete the old image and import the new one. Or you
can try Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks....and also Refresh to see your
changes.

These are pages I've created myself, the Hyperlink Recalculate is not
working, I've x's instead of images. I've deleted folders, recreated,
imported, embedded - still x's instead of images. Perhaps there is another
resource for me instead of bothering you people. I'm not sure. What if the
program were corrupted, would I have to ditch everything and uninstall and
reinstall? What would happen to my files?

Thanks.

Have you actually created a web and have it open when you do all this, or
just pages you created without first having a web?

I have a website. I actually publish the pages to see them, because the
preview makes it look like all is ok. When I publish, I go to my site, and
x's instead of images.

Yes, the globe icon is there. In excercise, I closed the file, closed the
program. Opened the program, opened the file, which was shown as the globe
icon. Same problem. I've deleted the image folders, on the off chance that
there might be a 'glitch' with the folder. I've recreated the folder, and
gone forward w/ the image as discussed, and still, it does not work. I've
tried a variety of folders that require the placement of images and I have
noticed continuing problems. Could the program be corrupted? People warned me
about FrontPage, and other people warned me about Dreamweaver. I'm not sure
what to think.

Thank you.

I have a website. I actually publish the pages to see them, because
the preview makes it look like all is ok. When I publish, I go to my
site, and x's instead of images.

Tom meant "Have you actually created a web ON your local computer." He
doesn't mean the website hosted by your ISP.

If you open Windows Explorer and browse to the folder that contains you
files, is the Icon a simple folder (like that shown next to
"aolextras"), or does it have a "globe" icon (like the one shown next to
"Adelphia" in the image below?

If it's a simple folder, then you are NOT opening a web when you use
Frontpage, and will have the problems you're experiencing. If so, open
Frontpage, then use the "File | Open SITE" command, and browse to the
folder. You'll get a window opening like the second image below.
ANSWER YES.

Then in the future, always be sure to open the site, not just individual
files.
