I'm skunked thanks to Gateway's Extended Warranty!

Hi!

My Epson C82 inkjet that I bought from Gateway just went kaput, and
the extended warranty company said that they can't replace it because
it's no longer available. I KNOW IT'S AVAIALABLE, but they don't want
to pay for one because it would be more than what I paid for it. Now
they only want to reimburse me for what I paid for mine, excluding
taxes and shipping!

BEWARE OF EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR THIS EXACT REASON!!

I must therefore buy another EPSON to take advantage of what's left of
my Extended Warranty. But I'd sacrifice that warranty if I can buy a
decent printer
for less than $80.00. Can you all recommend one? I was always partial
to Epson and I have tons of matte paper. Would all printers use matte
paper? I don't care especially for gloss. And I'd hate to throw my
matte paper away as well.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

For about 60 you can get a C64 or C66(new just coming out). They are both
one model below the C84(the C82 replacement) and the C86(just coming out).

Scrutinize the exact language of your extended warranty and raise a
stink if it supports your
case. Send a registered letter to any officials of the warranty
company you can discern by name
advancing your points. Indicate your next step will be to take the
matter up with the appropriate officials
in your area, e.g. state consumer affairs departments, attorney
general and small claims court. I had the
same problem with an Epson at Compusa and they quit their nonsense
once I got politely insistent and asked
for the name of their corporate agent designated by the state to
receive subpoenas. By the way, you can find
out that information by contacting the appropriate state authorities.
Don't forget to explicitly point out just where
said model is available to dash their false representation.

Call epson.

I am on my 3rd C82 printer. First one clogged; replaced 100% free of cost.
Replacement didnt work at all. 3rd printer works great.

Epson has paid to ship all these printers both ways to and from Hawaii via
2nd day air. I did buy from the epson store though. Call them, say you
bought it from HP. If you have proof of purchase within a year and they
honor it, you will get a new one free.

Mike,

If you decide to replace the printer on your own, take a look here:

I've had good luck with their refurb stuff in the past.

Hope this helps,
Dave
