Iiyama monitor only does 60 Hz on my ATI Radeon computers

Hey all, think this is the best newsgroup for this question.

I've got three computers and am having trouble hooking up an Iiyama
Vision Master Pro 400 (A701GT). The monitor is coming of computer 1
and should go on computer 2. Computer 3 is just another workstation.

When I have the monitor hooked up to computer 2 (AMD Athlon XP 2800+
w/ ATI Radeon 9600 Pro) I can select several refresh rates but no
matter which one I choose the refresh rate is always 60 Hz. It's
pretty apparant with white backgrounds and is also the frequency the
monitor itself reports on the OSD.

This computer (2) is running Windows 2000 Professional and I've tried
the Standard Monitor driver, the Plug and Play monitor driver and the
Iiyama drivers which I downloaded from the Internet from Iiyama
themselves.

On the original computer where it was hooked up (computer 1) it works
like a charm and I can select 85 Hz and it runs 85 Hz (noticeable
better and reported by OSD). This is also Windows 2000 Professional
but the machine is equipped with a Matrox Productiva card.

This is where the third computer comes in. It's a AMD Athlon XP 3200+
w/ ATI Radeon 9500 Pro running Windows XP Professional and it has the
same problem as computer 1. I can select different refresh rates. The
screen blinks to black momentarly and comes back with Windows asking
me if it's ok. But it's still always 60 Hz.

I've googled and searched the news groups, but can't find this problem
anywhere. It really looks related to the ATI cards.

TIA for any advice and/or solution (except buying a new monitor ;)

Any guess what: after hours of fiddling and trying to get it to work.
Five minutes after I post I to a newgroup I find the fix:

The refresh rate setting on the monitor tab in display settings does
not influence the refresh rate of the monitor. The setting that does
influence is, is the one on the ATI tab Displays where I noticed the
monitor hookup and it said 60 Hz. Switched it over to 85 Hz and it
works!

Perhaps this is of some use when indexed by Google for future
generations ;-)

Cheers!

I surprised you didn't find it, since it is commonly reported. I had
the same problem recently, and you can override the 60 hz limit,
but you have to go pixel hunting in the ati control panel to find
it :).

Here's the sequence on my Windows XP system:

Right click on desktop background
Select "Properties" from popup menu
Select "Settings" tab
Click on "Advanced"
Select "Displays" tab (NOT Monitor).
Click the word "Monitor" in the thing above the picture of a
monitor which looks like it is merely a artsy shaped heading
with a bite out of the left side, but is actually a button
that brings up another dialog.
Finally! On the "Attributes" tab there are controls
to select max refresh rate, resolution, etc.

There are adventure games with puzzles that are easier to solve than
this - a true testament to ATIs interface design :).

Thing is that I have been running an ATI radeon in computer 3 for
almost a year and I can also set the refresh rate in the ordinary
Windows monitor tab in display settings. Apparantly this doesn't
almost work.

It's fixed now :)

Just for future reference: I've got the same problem here. I always
used to run my desktop on 1152x864 at 75 hz on my Philips 107S
monitor.

Since I've got a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT, it only does 60 hz.
However, the display properties (monitor tab) in Windows says it runs
at 75, the OSD on the monitor says it is 60 hz...
