IIS Hang

Recently one of my Windows 2000 server has a problem with the IIS.
It hangs quite often with the IIS! User can't access the URL.
I had to 'Stop' & 'Start' the "World Wide Web Publishing Service" to resolve
temporary.
What could be the caused of it???

I should said IIS stop responding quite frequently. Have to 'Stop' & 'Start'
"WWW".
BTW, how to check the version of IIS in the box?

There is a newsgroup for IIS:
microsoft.public.inetserver.iis

Look at one of its log files. The version is on the first line, e.g.
#Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0
