If function that will colour a cell either red or green depending.

I need a formulae that will colour a cell green if the value in the cell it
is greater than 0 and will colour the cell red if the value of the cell is
less than 0 .

Have a look at Conditional Formatting that's beneath the Format menu option.
Here you can set criteria that meets your needs.
