If Call of Duty 2 pre-release demo is choppy on your ATI card...

FYI.

A friend, who works Activision and tested CoD2, said setting DirectX 7 should improve my FPS on
my old ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW (128 MB) video card. It does! YAY!!! I can play at 1152x864
resolution, anisotropic, full details, etc.!! I cannot see the differences though, but then I
didn't play longer than two minutes. It now plays like CoD1!

Try it you guys if the performance is awful.

the smoke and particles seem to be the same - I noticed some bumpmapping and
specularity
in indoor textures that doesnt look the same in Dx7 mode but frankly thats
no loss to me.
as you say it plays like CoD 1 but thats the point - it feels just like a
COD expansion - not like a step up.

DX7 mode is minus all the additional texture passes(normal mapping and
bumpmapping etc)

That's funny I'm running with a *really* old 8500 and I didn't have to
switch to DX7 mode to get decent framerates. Of course I was only
running at 800x600, mind you. ;-)

I think your card already is in DX7 mode because it doesn't have any DX9
hardware.
