If a movie can play in Media Player, why not it in PowerPoint?

I am at a loss - I have some movies that I have edited in Adobe Premiere that
do not play in PowerPoint, even though they do play in Microsoft Media
Player. I have played with different compressions, files sizes, video rates
etc., but I can not figure out why some won't play. I can insert the file,
and see the first image, but when I click the movie image goes white with a
small sliver of the image remaingin, and the little "hand" icon comes on
until I move away from the slide. I seem to be able to COPY the file into
Powerpoint and it will play that way, but the quality is not as good. What
could be going on?

This is normally a clue that the total path/folder length is toooo long.

try putting your moves in something shorter e.g.

c:\powerpoint\movies

then
insert menu > movies > from file (in powerpoint)

You might want to try out Plays For Certain at www.pcfmedia.com if the
troubleshooting does not work.

Note there are add-ins that use MediaPlayer in PowerPoint. If you use
Vox Proxy (www.voxproxy.com) you can play media files directly in Media
Player on top of the slide show window. Vox Proxy also lets you fade
music volume up and down if it's played in MP.

THIS WORKED!
My movie file name was very long (72 characters) and when I shortened it -
it played.
Excellent. Thank you.

Do you know what the character limit is?

The path length limit is 128 characters. It is also inside the
troubleshooting guide.
