iexplore.exe Runtime Error!

Hi,

I have been getting the following MS Visual c++ error when running IE:
****
RunTime Error!

Program: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe

This application has requested the RunTime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.
****
This started after cleaning some malware using both SpyBot S&D and Ad-aware
(most recent versions)

I upgraded to SP2, but that didn't clear the problem.

I disabled script debugging and the display of those errors per another
post. This cleared up the error popping up, but IE is still slow and won't
close properly.

I've installed Firefox and it works fine.

Any ideas on how to clean this up?

Many Thanks!!

Hi mboonedog :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

You may be having a conflict with msvcrt.dll (or one of its variants),
perhaps maybe mfc.dll

msvcrt.dll = Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library
mfc.dll = Microsoft Foundation Classes

You could replace or install the runtime files.
Download the msvcrtXX.dll files here:
http://www.freewarefiles.com/category/library2.htm

Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.

also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

or..

also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

also....

This is sometimes caused by the CommonNames parasite. See:
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/CommonName.html

Or this could be caused by another parasite. Try CWShredder, Ad-aware and
Spybot. See: Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

Hope this helps

Great Info, thx Jan. I did find the common name parasite, although didn't
record the variant. After booting in safe mode, Spy Bot seems to have
cleaned it but the ie problem persists. Will dig deeper to ensure no
vestiges exist. Does the parasite cause the DLL issue that you describe, or
is it doing something else?

Hi mboonedog :)

It appears it can. Here is more information on this spyware for you to
review if you wish. It explains how it does its thing and what it affects,
basically.

CommonName - Adware
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-commonname.html
There are also other removal tools here you can also use. You should also
run AdAware.

Hope this helps
