IEEE 1394

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to install an LaCie IEEE 1394 external
hard drive. Whenever I hookup the drive I get no reaction from VISTA, it
does not show found new hardware or anything. Also, when I look to see if
the drive is loaded again nothing is there. I have heard that VISTA does
not support IEEE 1394. Any ideas?

I have a Fantom 120 GB IEEE 1394 external drive.
Vista sees it just fine.

If you look in Device Manager, do you see the 1394 controller?
and the drive under Disk Drives? My drive shows up as an Oxford 911 IEEE
1394 SBP2 Device.

Sorry for the delay. This is the first time I have used newsgroups and I
was replying the wrong way.

I can see the controller, but the hard drive does not show up anywhere. Any
suggestions?

There are several things to check:
1. is the drive powered up?
2. is the drive plugged into a 1394 port? on the front or back? maybe the
port isn't connected to the motherboard or card.
3. unplug & replug. does Vista respond?
4. open Control Panel & run Add Hardware. Does Vista find the drive?
5. on the LaCie support site, there is an update.. I don't know if it
applies to your drive...

Dave,
Believe it or not I have tried all those options. Still nothing happens.
Maybe I have a bad cable. Who knows LoL.

Don't ignore that possibility -- we spent seveeral days trying to help
someone get their HP Printer installed. It would work fine on its own
but if plugged in alongside a 7 port USB powered Hub one of the devices
plugged in stopped working.

HP techies talked about it being a power hog etc but in the end all it
needed was a new USB cable for the printer and everything worked fine.

Did you check the La Cie website? You don't say which drive you have
but the only one that is only firewire seems to be the Porsche model
but in any case this seems to apply to all their 13943 drives:
