IE6 slow file copy after download

I have noticed that, sometimes, when downloading a large file through
Internet Explorer, it takes a long time to copy the file from the
temporary location to the desktop.

For instance, if I download a 100MB file, it takes a reasonable amount
of time to actually download it. But immediately after it's finished
downloading, IE takes 5-7 minutes to copy the file to the desktop (or
wherever I saved it to).

Has anyone had any trouble with this? It seems to come and go. It
might not have anything at all to do with IE, but I thought this would
be a good place to start.

I'm using the latest version of IE 6 on Windows XP
(6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519).

Thanks,
Joseph

The speed at which your system copies the file from the TIF (cache) to its
destination directory can depend on several things - like how fragmented
your hard drive is and if it's busy doing other things at the same time (an
anti-virus scan, for example), or how fast your CPU and hard drive is to
begin with. I noticed quite an increase in the time it takes to do this
task earlier this year when I replaced my six year-old PIII 1 GHz machine
with a Pentium D 3.4 GHz model w/ much more RAM as well.
